Tuition & Fees

Find out how much the MAE program at our university in Prague costs, and opportunities for scholarships and discounts.

Tuition

Standard tuition for the complete MAE program is 12,000 Euro.

According to the mission of CERGE-EI, most students with citizenship from a post-transition and/or developing country have a tuition discount. A typical tuition level for a student from a post-transition or developing country is 8000 Euro for the complete MAE program.

Scholarship application

Exceptionally well-prepared applicants can apply for a scholarship of up to 50% of whatever tuition they would otherwise pay. These scholarships are considered on a case-by-case basis. The number of scholarships granted depends on the budget situation and the applicant pool, but generally only a few scholarships will be granted each year.

To apply for the scholarship, when you submit your application also submit by email a letter describing why you should gain the scholarship. The letter should be two pages maximum. Remember that academic merit is the criterion for awarding the scholarship.

Fees

Other than tuition, there are fees for the following items:

  • Preparatory Semester
  • Thesis (optional)
  • Health insurance (required by Czech law)
  • Visa application costs.

The Preparatory Semester is required. It is offered on-line, but if you come for the Preparatory Semester in Prague, you do not have to attend the on-line course.

Either way, there is a Preparatory Semester fee of 300 USD. The additional fee for the Preparatory Semester in Prague is determined each year.

The fee for completing a Thesis is 1500 Euro. This fee pays for the increased faculty attention to the individual student and added administration costs.

You are required by Czech law to have health insurance from an approved provider regardless of coverage you might have from your home country. We will help you search for the cheapest insurance option, but we estimate that health insurance will cost around 750 Euro for the 6-month visa period (so about 1500 Euro for the whole 12-month program). You purchase this insurance when applying for the visa.

Applying for the visa incurs several different costs that depend on your citizenship and your location relative to an embassy or consulate. It also depends on when you apply.

Payment

Timing

There are five payments of the total tuition for each student:

Tuition Deposit: This is paid within 30 days of receiving your admissions decision, confirming your place in the program. It is 1000 USD.

Preparatory Semester Fee: Beginning of July. This payment is then deducted from your first tuition payment. It is 300 USD. (If you attend the Preparatory Semester in Prague, there is an extra fee.)

First Tuition Payment: Beginning of September. It is (Your tuition level)/3 - 1000 USD - 300 USD.

Second Tuition Payment: Beginning of January. It is (Your tuition level)/3.

Third Tuition Payment: Beginning of April. It is (Your tuition level)/3.

The Thesis fee is due before the first day of the semester when you begin writing the Thesis.

Method of payment

Mainly we accept payment through electronic bank transfer. Details for making payments will be provided to you when you are admitted to the program.

For extraordinary smaller payments, you can also pay via PayPal.

Failure to meet the payment schedule will cause the student to lose student status and make it impossible to complete the degree program. Complete Payment Rules are available.

Financial support

Other than generous individual discounts and scholarships, CERGE-EI at the present time cannot offer any other financial support for students, nor do we administer granting of other funds.

It is possible for students to obtain bank loans and other support for study. The MAE program will make every effort to assist students in searching for such opportunities.
