Čtvrteční seminář CTS: Kant on Virtue and Aristotle on Duty
Centrum po teoretická studia si Vás dovoluje pozvat na čtvrteční seminář Kant on Virtue and Aristotle on Duty, který povede prof. Ralph Walker (Magdalen College, Oxford). Seminář se koná ve čtvrtek 23. února 2012 od 10.00 v CTS, Husova 4, 3. p.
Kant’s moral philosophy is often seen as austere and abstract, denying the importance of moral feeling and ignoring the realities of the moral life. In this he seems to contrast unfavourably with Aristotle and with contemporary virtue ethics. I shall argue that Kant has been misunderstood, largely because of the extreme inadequacies of his own exposition. In reality his position is much closer to Aristotle’s than is normally appreciated, and arguably it arises through his attempt to fill out gaps in what Aristotle said.
