Graduated in Probability and Statistics from Charles University, Prague in 1987, receiving a CSc. (Ph.D.) in Statistics from Charles University. In 1989 received a scholarship for the 33rd Semester of the Banach Center, Warsaw. Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Statistics, Carleton University, Ottawa in 1989. Visiting Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Statistics, Free University, Amsterdam in 1990. A Visiting Researcher at the Economics Department, Princeton University in 1993. Visiting Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Pennsylvania, 1994-1995. From 1991 Assistant Professor at CERGE, Charles University, Prague and since 1993 a Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Academy of the Sciences of the Czech Republic. From 1996 Associate Professor at CERGE. Citigroup Professor of Financial Markets at CERGE-EI Fall 2001-Spring 2003. Citigroup Endowment Professor at CERGE-EI since Fall 2003. The Director of CERGE, Charles University, and the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, July 1999-June 2003. In November 2002 he was appointed as Full Professor. Since 2004 an ESC Tenured Member.

Research Orientation:

Applied econometrics, applied finance (corporate finance, financial econometrics), banking and finance, econometrics, public finance, and statistics.
