Avifauna Islandu je celkově chudší na ptačí druhy než avifauna česká, je však poměrně bohatá zejména na vodní ptáky a bahňáky. Z teoretického hlediska je zajímavá i tím, které druhy postrádá ve srovnání s ptactvem odpovídající zeměpisné šířky ve Skandinávii.
