Michal Bursa works as a research scientist at the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences since 2011, after a four-year postdoc position at the same institute. He got his PhD degree in 2006 at Charles University, Prague.

His research activities include effects of strong gravity on the X-ray variability of compact objects and possible ways of inferring the mass and spin of black-hole sources from their X-ray emision spectra or lightcurves. His interests also include numerical simulations and ray-tracing in curved spacetimes.
