Neutron Optics Diffractometer (NOD)

The multipurpose diffractometer NOD is installed at the beam channel 8 of the reactor LVR-15 when sharing the same monochromator shielding with the double-crystal diffractometer MAUD where two independent bent perfect monochromators are situated. It is the primarily designed for testing neutron diffraction optics elements, namely neutron monochromators and neutron analyzers. Also it can be used for other types of diffraction experiments e.g. neutron texture measurements. It operates at a fixed neutron wavelength of 0.162 nm which is provided by a bent Si(111) monochromator. It can operate at a two or three axis mode. At present, high and ultrahigh resolution neutron monochromators based on multiple reflection effects realized in bent perfect crystals Si and Ge are investigated. Furthermore, focusing properties of dispersive double bent crystal arrangements are tested. The diffractometer is equipped with necessary goniometers. For neutron detection a point and a linear position sensitive detector with a spatial resolution of 2 mm and for very high spatial resolution experiments FUJI imaging plate with the resolution of 50 mm x 50 mm are used.
