Badatelé z výzkumných pracovišť AV ČR připravují širokou nabídku exkurzí, přednášek, výstav a diskusních večerů, ve kterých představují své výzkumné projekty, předvádějí nejmodernější vědecké přístroje a experimenty a přibližují návštěvníkům nejnovější trendy v oblasti vědy.

Traditional Open Houses in the Institute of Mathematics AS CR will be organized on November 1 and 2, 2012. For a more detailed information and reservation of lectures please call 222 090 702 or e-mail mathinst@math.cas.cz.
It is part of the Week of Science and Technology, the most extensive scientific festival in the Czech Republic, organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in cooperation with other institutions. The scientists from the research workplaces of the Academy of Sciences prepare a wide offer of lectures, presentations, panel discussions, seminars, excursions, exhibitions and discussion evenings, in which they present their research projects, the most modern scientific apparatuses and outline for the attendees the latest trends in the areas of science in the Czech Republic and the world.

6th European Congress of Mathematics: July 2-7, 2012 in Krakow (Poland)

On Monday, July 2, the doors opened to the 6th European Congress of Mathematics in the beautiful historic city of Krakow in Poland. Since 1992, the European Mathematical Society invites every four years mathematicians from all over the world to this important event. Previous congresses have been held in Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Stockholm and Amsterdam. This year, the congress is organized by colleagues from the Polish Mathematical Society and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, chaired by Prof Stefan Jackowski (Warsaw). The scientific programme has been arranged by international Scientific Committee chaired by Prof. Eduard Feireisl (Institute of Mathematics AS CR). The Polish President, Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski has accepted the honorary patronage for the congress.

Close to 1.000 mathematicians are expected to participate in the congress that is taking place over a whole week at the Auditorium Maximum of the Jagellionian University. During the opening ceremony on Monday morning a total of 12 prizes installed by the European Mathematical Society were awarded by EMS President Prof Marta Sanz-Solé (Barcelona, Spain) to laureates selected by three prize committees.
