| Description: | Following two highly successful meetings in Milovy, Czech Republic in the
years 1997 and 2002, The Institute of Computer Science, Academy of Sciences
of the Czech Republic will organize
from August 19th to 25th, 2007
the third meeting under the name HARRACHOV 2007. We wish to continue the
tradition of meetings on computational linear algebra in Central Europe, to
follow the high spirit and the friendly and stimulating atmosphere of the
previous meetings. In particular, we wish to combine an intense scientific
program based on the well-balanced choice of excellent invited plenary talks
given by distinguished scientists of all ages, complemented by parallel
sessions of contributed talks, with a sufficiently long afternoon breaks
which allows ample time for discussion and interaction among participants.
The program will be planned for full five days Monday through Friday
(arrival on Sunday, departure Saturday morning), with the Thursday afternoon
and Friday devoted to lectures of the special joint event,
The 7th GAMM Workshop on Applied and Numerical Linear Algebra,
coorganized with GAMM (Gesellschaft fuer Angewandte Mathematik und
Mechanik). The previous workshops took place in Berlin (2001), Bielefeld
(2002), Braunschweig (2003) and Hagen (2004), with the coming one to be held
in Dresden (2005). |

| Description: | Software systems developed for environmental modeling, protection and research tasks have grown steadily in sophistication, complexity and usefulness in the recent past. Environmental information systems (EIS) are a major focus of environmental research, decision support and policy formulation. The subject of EIS is multi-disciplinary, and must adapt quickly to new computing resources and environments. Our peers in EIS research and development face major challenges in maintaining our individual and collective knowledge-base as the need for EIS continues.
ISESS, the International Symposium on Environmental Software Systems, was initiated in 1995 as a forum in which to present and discuss the fundamentals, progress and actual trends in this area in terms of methods, tools and state-of-the-art applications. Over the years, it has also evolved into an important networking tool for academics, environmental professionals, and other interested parties.
ISESS 2007 is part of a series organized by IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Working Group 5.11 "Computers and Environment". The purpose of the symposium is to present and discuss the progress and trends in Enviromatics, which is operationally defined as the application of information technology to environmental science, engineering, and management.

| Description: | The meeting will concentrate on computational methods, namely on methods of numerical linear algebra, their (parallel) implementations and applications. Based on the contributions, we plan to structure the program into
subthemes like, e.g., matrix theory and its applications, sparse direct solvers, iterative methods for linear systems,
preconditioning techniques, large-scale eigen-problems, inverse problems and regularization. Special attention will
be paid to application areas not restricted to PDE's, control, optimization or image processing. We will keep the
format of the program similar to the Milovy 1997 meeting, with periods of free time in the afternoons for
unstructured discussions. The scientific program is planned for full 5 days (Monday through Friday), with a free
Wednesday afternoon reserved for an excursion. |
