Projekt: Analysis of electromagnetic waves in the radiation belts and development of data processing algorithms for the NASA RBSP project

This collaborative research project (with the University of Iowa, Iowa City) is aimed at physics of the terrestrial radiation belts (Van Allen belts) and at analysis of wave measurements in magnetospheric plasmas. We plan to examine sources and propagation of different modes in the inner magnetosphere, such as magnetosonic equatorial noise waves, whistler-mode plasmaspheric hiss and whistler-mode chorus waves, including their non-linear aspects in the latter case. We will also contribute to understanding of wave-wave and wave-particle interactions and detection techniques. We plan to use measurements of different instruments aboard the four-satellite mission Cluster, the Double-Star mission, as well as other data sources (missions Polar, Cassini and Themis). The most important part of the project will consist in preparation of experimental program and onboard processing techniques, and analysis of the first measurements of the EMFISIS instrument in the frame of the NASA RBSP.
