Nadace

Funds donated by supporters to Nadace CERGE-EI and the CERGE-EI Foundation USA are used in numerous ways, the most common of which include

Student Tuition and Stipends

CERGE-EI receives generous student support from Charles University. However, there remains a significant gap between this support and the real cost of educating each student. CERGE-EI is committed to ensuring that qualified students are able to enroll, regardless of their financial means. Therefore, some of our most vigorous fund-raising efforts are for student tuition, as well as stipend funds that provide students with modest living funds.

Students on Mobilities

While the level of education at CERGE-EI is outstanding, we recognize that students doing dissertation research can often benefit by having access to other professors and additional research facilities. Therefore, CERGE-EI students are encouraged to travel abroad when it will benefit the quality of their dissertation. In order to make such travel possible, our two foundations seek gifts and grants which make student mobilities a reality.

Visiting Professors

CERGE-EI's young faculty is both talented and enthusiastic. However, both they and CERGE-EI students get a measure of additional benefit by having access to senior academics who can assist in teaching, student advising, faculty and student research activities, and dissertation supervision. CERGE-EI's Visiting Professor program brings outstanding professors from the West to the institution on a regular basis for these purposes. In order to make such positions attractive, however, salary offers must be competitive. Our foundations, through their donors, continues to provide funds for this important program.

Local Professors

Gifts to our foundations also are used to help members of the local faculty. Just as higher salaries are needed to help bring distinguished visiting professors to Prague, competitive salaries are needed to keep our talented local economists at CERGE-EI. Donated funds are also used in the form of bonuses to supplement the incomes of local faculty members and reward them for outstanding academic performance. In addition, some money donated by corporations is used specifically for individual corporate professorships which carry the name of the donor corporation.

CERGE-EI Facilities, Activities, and Publications

Acquiring and disseminating economic research is an essential function of CERGE-EI. Our foundations assist the institution by seeking funds to underwrite the expenses of the CERGE-EI Library - regarded as the best economic-oriented library in Central and Eastern Europe. We also seek funding annually for the comprehensive and influential CERGE-EI Working Paper Series, and for the CERGE-EI Seminar Series, a series of weekly lectures given for the entire community.
