Meteorological observatory Kopisty
The meteorological observatory Kopisty is situated in the central part of the North Bohemian lignite basin, 240 m above sea-level, in the immediate vicinity of petrochemical factory Chemopetrol Litvínov. In the past there were located a lot of lignite mines in the surrounding, which are presently largely recultivated. The proximity of the petrochemical factory, lignite mining, heavy industry and heavy traffic in the vicinity influence significantly the air quality in this location. No other meteorological station of CHMI occurs in the surrounding, with exception of the gauge station in Teplice, so that the meteorological measurements on the Kopisty observatory have the main importance.
The observatory was built for the monitoring of the conditions of the exhalations´ diffusion in this very exposed locality. The observatory has operated continually since 1.8. 1969. The observatory didn´t match the hygienic and technical requirements, so it was rebuild in 2008.
