Berriasian Working Group 8th meeting

 

 
Institute of Geology AS CR, v.v.i. and Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague organized Berriasian Working Group meeting from 26th to 29th October. The workshop, which took place in Chlupáč’s museum, was followed by excursions to Bohemian Karst and Bohemian Paradise.
The main theme of the conference was a precise definition of the Jurassic / Cretaceous boundary, which is necessary to define GSSP (Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point). 32 scientists and 6 students came from 11 countries and 4 continents. The working group is focused on sedimentary sequences across the boundary, which are distributed over the world. The task is bio- and magneto-stratigraphic correlation.

Meetings
An excellent autumn meeting was held in Prague (26-29 October 2012), hosted by the Institute of Geology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Charles University of Prague. Thanks to Petr Pruner, Martin Kostak, Petr Schnabl, Stanislav Slechta and Kristyna Cizkova and their colleagues. WG members from as far away as Mexico and Novosibirsk made the long journey to Prague and we had a diverse discussion on Tethyan, Gondwanan, non-marine and boreal correlations, with twenty-five talks and posters presented.
