Study of the regulation of insect organism, dynamics of insect populations and function of insects in ecosystems

The subject of the Research Proposal of the Institute of Entomology in years 2005–2010 is research in general and applied entomology aimed to extend knowledge of insect organism and insect populations in following topics: regulation of gene expression; structural–function organization of chromosomes, telomeres, sex chromosomes; regulation of insect development and metabolism, growth factors, functions of neurohumoral system; molecular mechanisms of daily rhythmicity of behaviour and physiological functions; mechanisms of adaptations of insects to seasonal and long–term changes of climate; dynamics of insect populations, evolution and population genetics; the role of insects in food nets of ecosystems influenced by man; structure of insect guilds in natural ecosystems, evolution of ecological interactions; phylogeny of insects, comparative morphology and taxonomy. The institute will continue editing the European Journal of Entomology.
