Graduated in Industrial Economics from the University of Economics, Prague, with an Ing. (M.A.) degree in 1977 and defended a CSc. (Ph.D.) degree in Economics from the Institute of Economics, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1986. Received a scholarship for study in Economics, Princeton University, Woodrow Wilson School for International and Public Affairs, 1991/1992. Since 1993 a Senior Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Part-time Adviser to the Minister of Privatization of the Czech Republic in 1993 focusing on foreign direct investors and short-term consultant to OECD (Advisory Group on Privatization) 1994-1996. Member of Scientific Council, Economics Institute of the Academy of the Sciences 1995-1999. Since 2001 a member of the editorial board and since 2005 member of executive board of the journal Politická Ekonomie and Prague Economic Papers. Since 2004 member of editorial board of Transfer and Global Economy Journal. Member of EAGCP (Economic Advisors Group on Competition Policy), European Commission, DG-Competition 2004-2006. In 2006 habilitated at Prague School of Economics in the field of economic policy.
