The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) will be a large-aperture, wide-field, ground-based telescope designed to provide deep images of half of the total sky in six optical colors every few nights. As such it will enable a wide variety of diverse astronomical investigations, ranging from making a census of small moving objects in the solar system, to mapping the outer regions of our Milky Way galaxy.

Tuesday, 05.02.2013 10:00 - 11:00

Veronica Goian a Stanislav Kamba (Dept. of Dielectrics, IoP)

Wednesday, 13.02.2013 15:00

Tomáš Jungwirth (Fyzikální ústav AV ČR, v. v. i.)

Spin polarized carriers electrically injected into a magnet from an external polarizer can exert a spin transfer torque (STT) whose physical origin is a non-relativistic angular momentum transfer. The phenomenon belongs to the area of spintronics research focusing on the manipulation of magnetic moments by electric fields. A current induced spin-orbit torque (SOT) is a distinct relativistic phenomenon in which magnetization dynamics is induced in a uniform spin-orbit coupled ferromagnet in the absence of the external polarizer.

Thursday, 07.03.2013 15:00 - 16:00
