Academy Assembly

The Academy Assembly, top-ranking body of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which is responsible for the highest priority decisions related to AS CR, convened its XXX meeting in Municipal House in Vinohrady on 26th December 2006. The Assembly accepted, as usual, the final resolution.

TOPIC OF THE MONTH
Follow the Botanics to Korean Peninsula

The history of Czech-Korean botany co-operation has been covering nearly 20 years. Czech scientists helped to form multi-national team that brought together two distinctive publications: Forest Vegetation of Northeast Asia and Distribution and Phytocoenology of Selected Woody Species of North Korea. The official partner of the Academy of Sciences in Korea is KOSEF (Korea Science and Engineering Foundation) that has already supported unique range of 2042 research projects.

About Unpredictability in Science

One of the best-known Czech scientists, theoretical astronomer Prof. Jan Palouš, a member of the Academy Council of the ASCR, continues his discourse in part two of an interview about differences between astronomy of the 19th and the 21st centuries, computer simulation of Space, about striking fact that the Sun is not a binary-star and the finiteness of Space.

Radiopharmaceutical preparation for Positron Emission Tomography in the Czech Republic
The PET-laboratory of the Nuclear Physics Institute ASCR, one of the first such workplaces in the world, completed research on the synthesis of extremely promising substance 3'-deoxy-3'-[18F], that has demonstrated great potential to replicate cancer tumors.
