Earned his B.A. degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Bielefeld, Germany, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, USA. 1985-1990 Research Assistant, Experimental Economics Laboratory Technician, and Instructor, Economics Department, Texas A&M University. 1990-1991 Research Associate, Economics Department, Texas A&M University. 1991-1999 Assistant Professor of Economics, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME. 1995-1996 and 1999-2001 Research Fellow, Program on Non-Profit Organizations, Yale University, New Haven, CT. 1996-1997 Research Scientist, Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition, Max-Planck-Institut für Psychologische Forschung, Munich, Germany. 1999-2000 Research Scientist, Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition, Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung, Berlin, Germany. Since May 2000 a Researcher and Assistant Professor at CERGE-EI. Habilitation defended in 2003. Promoted to Senior Researcher and Associate Professor at CERGE-EI in May 2004. Professorship offer from University of Jena, Germany, May 2005. Promoted to Senior Researcher and ESC tenured Professor in June 2005. 2006-2007 Visiting Scholar, Harvard Business School, Cambridge, MA. January 2007 – April 2009 Chair of the Board (formerly, Scientific Council) of the Economics Institute of the Czech Republic. In March 2009 accepted professorship offer from Australian School of Business at UNSW, Sydney, Australia. Remains affiliated with CERGE-EI on a part-time contract as Senior Researcher at the Economics Institute.

Research Orientation:

Industrial organization, financial markets, public finance, game theory, experimental economics, history of economic thought.
