American scientists will design and build the one-of-a-kind laser system that will be at the heart of ELI Beamlines

Americans will deliver one of the four unique lasers to the sophisticated scientific centre ELI Beamlines, now being built in Dolní Břežany near Prague, ELI Beamlines management said at a press conference that took place on May 24, 2013 in the main building of ASCR. The ELI Beamlines scientific team started working on its development along with one of the best known laser laboratories in the world, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.

“The best researchers and business people have international partners. In this era of global challenges and opportunities, we must reach out — even across an ocean — to collaborate with the best. And the Czech Republic is an excellent partner to the United States for our mutual pursuit of innovative discoveries and technologies. Czech science education programs and research labs have an international reputation for excellence, especially in advanced fields such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, and information technology. And this reputation can only grow as you establish sophisticated new research capabilities at ELI Beamlines and other projects. As you build these research facilities, you are making a significant investment in the future of the Czech economy. And so I am happy to see that American scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory – working with Czech partners– will design and build the one-of-a-kind laser system that will be at the heart of ELI Beamlines,” mentioned American Ambassador in the Czech Republic Norman Eisen.
