Jan Kmenta Awarded NFKJ Neuron Lifetime Achievement Award
November 9, 2011
Prof. Jan Kmenta has received the 2011 Neuron award for lifetime achievements in the field of economics. The annual Neuron awards were established by Nadační fond Karla Janečka (NFKJ, Karel Janeček's Endowment Fund) in 2010. There are two awards given annually – one to celebrate lifetime achievements and the other to for young researchers who decide to return from abroad to pursue their academic/research careers in the Czech Republic.
Michal Pakoš, a Senior Researcher at CERGE-EI, received the 2010 Neuron award for young researchers in the first year that the award was given. Prof. Jan Kmenta, the author of the internationally-used fundamental textbook “The Elements of Econometrics”, is currently Professor Emeritus of Economics and Statistics at the University of Michigan, and Visiting Professor at CERGE-EI. Karel Janeček is the founder of brokerage firm RSJ, who has supported CERGE-EI students since 2008.
Professor Kmenta recently gave an interview to the Czech business weekly Ekonom (note: the interview is in Czech).
