Michael C. Markovitz on CERGE-EI
“In addition to first class economics research, CERGE-EI provides and pays instructors to teach undergraduate economics courses in countries that have only recently been exposed to market economics. Many of these students work in their various government ministries helping apply what they have learned to the economic advancement of their home countries and the general betterment of their people.
“In discussions with students and graduates of the programs in Europe I've been told of the impact they are having on the thinking in their home countries about agriculture, industrial policy, labor policy, education, and more.
“I've enjoyed most speaking directly with students about their research and their employment, the commitment of faculty and staff, who are highly motivated to the mission, dedicated, and determined. Even a slightly larger endowment could reach many more undergraduates in the former Soviet Bloc and developing countries eager to learn Western market economic theory and practice.
“This is a great organization promoting world peace, prosperity, and cooperation, all through education.”
