Denis Diderot: Art and Knowledge

International Scientific Meeting in Cluj
9-11 September 2013, Faculty of Letters, Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

The 300th anniversary of Denis Diderot's (1713–1784) birth is an excellent opportunity to inquire again into problems related to human knowledge, art and tradition, creativity and ethos. An unmistakable writer of theatre plays, dissertations, novels, scientific articles, Diderot was a defining character of the Encyclopédie, an art critic and a tireless experimenter whose influence hasn't been fully explored. The event will pay tribute to his work, but will also seek to problematize issues related to philosophy and philosophy of art.
