Organic Chemistry

Chemistry of helquats is barely explored. Our recent studies show that these helical dications are interesting species from a stereochemical perspective (Chem. Sci. 2011, 2, 2314; Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2012, 489). The aim of this PhD. project is to demonstrate that helquats are more than just attractive toys for stereochemists. The ultimate goal is to show that understanding stereochemistry of helquats opens the route to exploring application manifold of these doubly positive compounds. The project will focus on properties of helquats intimately linked with their chirality, flexibility, and salt character.
