Copenhagen 6 November 2013: The 7th annual SHARE Symposium in Copenhagen, Denmark on 6 November 2013 has the pleasure of welcoming two keynote speakers. In the morning Professor Bente Finsen, University of Southern Denmark, gives a presentation on “Understanding disease mechanisms in human neurological disorders through studies of mice”, and in the afternoon Professor Helena Tlaskalova-Hogenova, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic, gives a presentation about “The role of microbiota in the immune system development and chronic disease”.
The two professors will together with more than 20 speakers and 20 poster presentations share their comprehensive scientific al experience with an international audience of more than 150 scientists and Ph.D. students.
The current strategic research education initiative SHARE (acronym for “Synergy in Human and
Animal Research”), envisions translation of animal research to human, through sharing and
application of knowledge, competencies, and methods into improved medical care for both humans and
animals. Great progress has been made in the field and exiting next generation animal models are
emerging.
This year’s SHARE symposium is dedicated to the “Between Mice and Men” from Omics-what have
we learned crossing species, phenotypes versus molecular mechanisms, predictability and validity
crossing species and to handling complex data as well as a session of “Best practices of industry
collaboration projects”.
The symposium is organized by SHARE, currently a cross faculty strategic research education
initiative at the University of Copenhagen between the Faculties of Health and Medical Sciences,
and the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, in cooperation with the research education
programme In Vivo Pharmacology, the Center for Medical Research Methodology (CMRM), and Biopeople,
Denmark's Innovation Network for Health & Life Sciences.
The initiative is supported by Novo Nordisk, LEO Pharma and Lundbeck in connection with Ph.D.

Biopeople is part of the Danish infrastructure for innovation established and cofounded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education. We have an International outreach that helps Danish companies and researchers to establish cross border collaborations and vice versa.
Biopeople embraces and gathers the vast majority of public and private research within health
and life science in Denmark. The network includes all relevant Danish universities, research
institutions and hospitals plus the Danish Health and Medicines Authority. On the private side,
industry associations contribute their resources, and we have numerous pharma, medtech, food and
biotech companies as members of Biopeople.
