Projekt mapuje faktory, zdroje a souvislosti procesů a mechanismů genderových nerovností na českém trhu práce v souvislosti se změnami české společnosti po roce 1989 a v souvislosti se vstupem ČR do EU. Projekt využívá kvalitativní sociologickou metodologii, zarámovanou sekundární analýzou dat z kvantitativních sociologických šetření, přičemž důraz je kladen na biografické vyprávění žen v různých fázích životního cyklu a v situacích, kdy jsou ohroženy znevýhodněním na trhu práce (zkušenost s nezaměstnaností) v kombinaci s kategoriemi: fáze mateřství, výše dosaženého vzdělání a věk.

In the background of the historical development of Czech society in the context of theoretical approaches to the study of feminist sociology of work and family we analyze biographical interviews with women of different age groups in different stages of family cycle and in different situations on the labor market.
Mothers as heads of one-parent families become very often the only breadwinners for their families, while still being the primary carers for their children. This leads to the worsening of the economical situation of their families. The results of my research presented in this article show further the barriers that women encounter while trying to provide for their families and the values that intervene in their work life choices.
What factors influence fertility plans of young childless men and women? Opportunities to engage in other activities than parenting and the change of ideal age for entering parenthood legitimate postponement of childbearing. Postponement of childbearing becomes a factor promoting childbearing being considered in relation to other aspects of one’s life though.
The paper addresses the specific conditions of unskilled women, struggling to integrate their paid work and unpaid work in the Czech Republic. The analysis is based on three biographic interviews regarding the work trajectories of women whose highest level of education is vocational or lower. The employees with the lower levels of human and social capital occupy marginalized positions in the labour market.
This publication presents a quantitative look at the issue of gender segregation – a statistical image – and a qualitative image of the social reality of women’s labour as portrayed in contemporary Czech television serials. The analysis showed that the Czech labour market continues to be and has long been heavily segregated and the degree of segregation is only decreasing very slowly.
The article focuses on the perception of the motherhood, family life and work in the lives of mothers as well as on how this perception affects their definition of a combination work and family.
S novelou zákona o nemocenském pojištění, která začne platit od 1.1.2009, dochází i ke změně resp. ke zvýšení redukčních hranic pro výpočet výše peněžité pomoci v mateřství. Nově jsou podobně jako u výpočtu dávek nemocenského pojištění stanoveny namísto dvou tři redukční hranice, z nichž se vypočítává měsíční částka peněžité pomoci v mateřství (mateřský příspěvek). Je to jistě dobrá zpráva pro ženy, které plánují narození dítěte.

Using firm-level data from the Czech Republic in the years 1998, 2002, and 2004, we examine whether the introduction of legislative measures for gender equality connected with the accession to the European Union had significant effects on gender wage gaps. The central conclusion of our analysis is that within-job wage discrimination is a significant factor in the Czech labor market and that there were no substantive changes during the period studied.
