Research objectives and grants

Between 2005 and 2010, the Institute of Ethnology pursues work on the research plan Cultural identity and cultural regionalism in the process of formation of the ethnic image of Europe (AV0Z90580513).

The research plan focuses on knowledge of Czech society and its culture in relation to other European as well as non-European nations. Through the research of local, regional, national and minority cultures it will contribute to the image of multinational Europe with its singularities, cultural stereotypes and common traits. These are understood as a result of complex historical, social and cultural processes, exchanges and contacts. This is sought to be demonstrated through the study of ethnological, ethnographic and culturally historical material.
The research in the area of music history will focus mainly on the sources for the music culture in the Czech lands from 17th to 20th centuries, with particular accent on the music of the 18th century, key figures and types of music in the 19th century and the development of music in the Czech lands during the 20th century.
