Poetry of the 19th Century, Internet Application

The full-text database submits (with several exceptions) 1 200 first editions of the poetic texts, including the texts that are not generally accessible. The given complex involves another editions as well, when the collection had been during the poet´s life completely reworked and thus shows the poet´s artistic development (the 2nd edition is always accompanied by the variant reading) or when there exists the canonical critical edition. Thus the collection may appear in the application for several times.
We present the work of the poets of the given period within the framework of the whole of the full-text database for the 1st time. It is the presence of the works by the forgotten poets, the complex representation of all the layers of the poetic production of the given period regardless the artistic value of the modern poetry written in Czech that is the importance of the database. The poetic work of all the authors has been worked out with accompanying editorial material. It involves the column Publishing data (data on place and time of edition, publisher), moto and the author of a moto, and especially the editorial note and commentary. The editorial note gives an accoung of the poetic language of the author with all the individual singular features and variation of the usage, the commentary concentrates mostly on the concrete language problems, on translations of words or passages of foreign languages, and explanation of the outdated or obsolete words, in case of need.

For the target user we consider both the specialised researchers, bohemistics institutes and the wide cultural public at home and abroad, especially students of colleges and universities (we offer the source for e-learning as well). To promote the wider and especially easy accessibility of the material deposited in a full-text database we have decided to present it free of charge in the web. Thus we make use of the most modern methods for the reading of and analysis of the poetry and then we will promote greater readers´attractivity and form basic grounds for more precise analyses in literary or linguistic research. The presented full-text database provides all the advantages of a digital work with the text, both books, their parts (collections, poems, verses, individual lines, words) and the complex of texts chosen by the user himself. It enables high speed and well-arranged searching for and displaying of all the books and their structures; the option between two versions: diplomatic (fully faithful to the original) and editorially adapted (i.e. with the textology commentary of the editor); high speed full-text searching according to many adjustable parameters, i.e. the searching for one word, couple or group of words in different levels of the text: within the framework of a line, verse, poem, collection, book and all the database; the definition of groups of related words or different ways of the graphic record of the same word is possible by means of the user dictionary; further on it enables searching for the phrases of the individual words and motifs; automatic compilation of the frequency index; obtaining the statistical data on the number of words and lines in the chosen whole, on the length of the word or line in a given collection, author or group of authors; printing and export of limited parts of works; adding own notes or data of other sources to the database.
