History of Political Thought : Antiquity, Middle Ages and Modern Period

The goal of the project is to create a tree-volume set, History of Political Thought, which will be a systematic and critical interpretation of the history of political thought from Antiquity to World War I. The first volume will cover the development of political thought from its initial stage in Ancient Greece to the onset of Christianity. The second volume will be devoted to the development of political thought during the period of the rise, evolution and and the crises of Christianity. The third volume will focus on the development of political thought from Machiavelli to M. Weber and T.G. Masaryk. All contributions are original and are the result of cooperation of specialists from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Charles University in Prague and Palacky University in Olomouc. This three-volume set will differ from similar foreign works by placing greater emphasis on the political thought in the Czech Lands (Hussitism, the Czech reformation, Jesenský, Komenský, Bolzano and Masaryk). In its content, the publication exceeds the boundaries of such science disciplines as philosophy, law, sociology and history. It is, therefore, possible to expect that is will become a useful source of information not only for specialists and students but also for the wider public.
