doc. PhDr. Helena Ulbrechtová, Ph.D.

 

ulbrechtova.jpgHelena Ulbrechtová graduated from the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno in 1995, where she studied Russian and German languages and literatures. There she also obtained her Ph.D. degree in 1998 in the ´History and Theory of Russian Literature´ branch. Since that year she has worked as a literary scholar in the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, since 2003 as the Head of History and Theory of Slavic Literatures Department. In 2007 she was appointed the director of the Institute of Slavonic Studies and now she has held the 2nd term of the office. Since October 2007 she has lectured contemporary Russian literature at the Institute of East-European Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague (both bachelor´s and master´s programmes); she has been a supervisor of doctor´s programme there as well (the cooperation started in 2003). In 2011 she became an Associate Professor in Slavic Studies, in 2012 a chairperson of the Slavic Literatures Area Board there. She is also a member of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Arts at University of Ostrava and a member of the Academic Council of the Slavonic Library of the National Library of the Czech Republic.
 
In her research Helena Ulbrechtová focuses primarily on theoretical research of contemporary European literary studies as well as Russian-German literary and cultural connections. Her research concerns the interrelationship of literary and cultural studies and the reflection of philosophical thoughts and human knowledge in literary works. She has written three monographies, as a co-author and co-editor she also participated in six collective monographies. Her numerous studies, written in Czech, Russian and German, have been published in Czech and foreign scholarly publications and journals. Her work has been quoted and reviewed 40 times in Czech and foreign publications. In 2007–2009 she headed the international team project „Literaturen und Kulturen zwischen West und Ost“, at present she is the head of the international team project „Literatur und Wissen“. She is a member of the executive editorial board of the international scholarly journal Germanoslavica. Zeitschrift für germano-slawische Studien.
