Research interest

Biology of social insects, chemical communication in social insects, primer and releaser pheromones, biology of termites, chemical ecology of termites, reproductive regulation in termite societies, defensive adaptations of termites, chemistry of defense, caste systems and ontogeny, biology of the soldier caste, hormonal regulation of caste differentiation, juvenile hormones and their analogues, strategies of control of termite pests using juvenile hormone analogues, alternative approaches in imaging of biological samples (x-ray imaging), biostatistics.

 
Project supervisons
2010-2013 Biology, chemical ecology, and phylogeny of critical termite genera of families Rhinotermitidae and Serritermitidae (Czech Science Foundation, 7 research articles, 6 conference presentations).
2006-2010 Primer and releaser pheromones of termites: a case study (Grant Agency of the AS CR, 9 research articles, 1 invited review, 2 book chapters, 15 conference presentations).
 
Long-term collaborations

Collaboration with Prof. Yves Roisin (Evolutionary Biology and Ecology, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) in biology of termites. 11 joint publications, one running project.

Collaboration with Dr. David Sillam-Dussés (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, IRD France-Nord, Paris, France) in pheromone research and molecular genetics. 9 joint publications, one running project.
