Future generations of highly efficient solar cells increasingly require innovative nano-materials and process sequences. The complexity of todays silicon solar cells reaches the level of advanced electronic devices. Therefore, the Namlab solar cell group applies established microelectronic methods and materials to the photovoltaic development. The first part of the talk focuses on highly efficient Al2O3 passivation layers for silicon wafers to reduce surface recombination losses. In the second part, a new solar cell device concept with a metal wrap through metallization is evaluated using 3D TCAD simulation.
