The first conference on Technology Assessment in Prague
More than 230 specialists from around the world participated at the conference entitled „Technology Assessment and Policy Areas of Great Transitions“, which had been organized by the Technology Centre ASCR (TC) in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology - Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (KIT- ITAS) within the PACITA project (Parliaments and Civil Society in Technology Assessment). The conference took place in the National Technical Library in Prague on March 13 to 15, 2013, being the first TA conference in Europe after decades.
At the beginning, Ms. Lenka Hebakova (TC) welcomed participants and opened the conference. Then, the opening speeches were delivered by Lars Klüver (Danish Board of Technology), Ivan Wilhelm (MEYS – Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports), Anna Putnova (Parliament of the CR) and Martin Svoboda (National Technical Library). During following three days, European and non-European TA experiences were discussed within 18 running thematic sessions and 4 parallel events. Examples of societal areas witnessing such great transitions were health care and medicine, energy supply, climate change and mobility in addition to the use of computer technology in all areas of society.
