Zaměstnání a výuka:

1967-1994 Geofyzikální ústav ČSAV (stážista až vedoucí ionosférického oddělení)

1994-dosud Ústav fyziky atmosféry AVČR, v.v.i. (1998-2006 ředitel ústavu, nyní vedoucí oddělení aeronomie a předseda Rady ústavu).

Působí na MFF UK jako člen Vědecké rady, člen oborových subkomisí pro meteorologii a klimatologii, pro fyziku plazmatu a pro geofyziku; přednáší pro doktorandy kurz Stratosféra a mezosféra

Pracovní činnost:

Vědecké aktivity – fyzika a aeronomie ionosféry, dlouhodobé trendy v systému ionosféra-atmosféra, vztahy Slunce-Země, dopad kosmického počasí a atmosférických vln na ionosféru, ozón a střední atmosféra. Autor/spoluautor více než 280 odborných publikací a 340 odborných referátů

Mezinárodní aktivity – IAGA: viceprezident 1999-2003, nyní místopředseda pracovní skupiny II.F „Dlouhodobé trendy v mezosféře, termosféře a ionosféře“. COSPAR: člen COSPAR Council, předseda národního komitétu COSPAR. SCOSTEP: člen SCOSTEP Council, spolupředseda CAWSES-II TG-2 „Jak geosféra reaguje na klimatické změny“. Evropská geovědní unie (EGU): sekretář pro ionosféru. Člen EGU, AGU a AOGS. Organizátor/spoluorganizátor více než 30 mezinárodních konferencí, symposií a seminářů. Člen panelu PE-10 ERC (European Research Council) pro projekty mladých vědců. Místopředseda národního komitétu IUGG. Editorská činnost - Šéfredaktor časopisu Advances in Space Research (Elsevier/COSPAR) od ledna 2010. Guest-editor více než 15 speciálních čísel různých mezinárodních časopisů, editor sekce Geofyzika a geochemie UNESCO encyklopedie EOLSS.
