Slavica in the Czech Language

The Department of the History of Slavonic Studies and Slavic Literatures of the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the ASCR is being prepared an extensive bibliography of translations from Slavic literatures into Czech. This basic heuristic research completed by a literary-historical elaboration and then by generalizing literary-theoretical work. Two volumes have been published so far, Slavica v české řeči I. Překlady ze slovanských literatur do roku 1860 (Slavica in the Czech language I. Translations from Slavic literatures until 1860). The second revised and supplemented edition was prepared by J. Bečka and K. Skwarska. Institute of Slavonic Studies of the ASCR, Euroslavica, Praha v 2002, 159 pp., Slavica v české řeči II. Překlady ze slovanských literatur 1861-1890 (Slavica in the Czech language II. Translations from Slavic literatures 1861-1890. Prepared for publication by J. Bečka et al., Institute of Slavonic Studies of the ASCR, Praha 2002, 629 pp.). The project presents an all-embracing documentation describing the Czech-Slavonic relationships from the most ancient times and containing everything that has been published on the Slavic world in the Czech language in the periodical press or in single publications (with the exception of Bohemica).

A manuscript of a bibliographic survey titled Slavica III is now under preparation (translations from Slavic literatures into Czech 1891-1918). The first part, translations from West Slavic and South Slavic literatures, will be prepared to be published in the half of 2006. The second part containing translations from East Slavic literatures will be continued as the second volume of Slavica III.

At present, the bibliographic data of the Institute´s catalogue hitherto existing in print are now tranferred into electronic form and new searches are being performed. Electronic data transfer is currently under way to fix translations from slavic literatures published in various Czech and Moravian periodicals, and data in electronic database are gradually being made accessible. The working group cooperates with European documentation centres and organisations such as, ABDOS, the European Slavic portal structured in Berlin, the Literary Archive in Marbach.
