The aim of the Biographical Dictionary of the Czech Lands Project consists in preparing and publishing a set of biographies containing scietifically verified information about the life, wort and role of selected persons. The Dictionary will provide biograms of persons born in Bohemia or Moravia, working for some time in or being otherwise linked to these countries, irrespective of their ethnic origin. The main criterion of selection is the significance of the particular person?s work. The first volumes will include persons that died before the end of 2000. From 2002 to 2006, the first four-volumes of the Dictionary containing some 1400 biograms (A - Bez) are prepared and published. The Project will continue this work. The work on the Dictionary will be done by members of the Department of Biographical Studies, Institute of History, Czech Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with over 200 specialists in different branches. The Project will also include the methodological and theoretical aspects of biographical research, and the presentation of research results in this country as well as abroad.
