Computer Science for the Information Society: Models, Algorithms, Applications
The ICS will focus in its research in the selected areas of computer science mainly upon problems inspired by current and emerging computing technologies. Theoretical activities will concentrate in particular on basic research in computational mathematics, computational complexity theory, computational intelligence, computational statistics, computational learning theory, computational logic and cryptography. Interdisciplinary and application–oriented research will aim at neuroinformatics, non–linear modeling and prediction, medical and environmental informatics, and bioinformatics. The emphasis will be on identifying and harnessing of new approaches to computing and reasoning, on their creative application and on strengthening existing classical methodologies. Applications will be sought primarily in fields of environmental protection, meteorology, medicine and health care, cognitive sciences, knowledge discovery, machine learning, computational modeling and web technologies.
