Research on the religions, history, languages, literatures, cultures and civilizations of the countries of Asia and Africa

The research in major world religions (Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, Christianity) in the Near East, South and Southeast Asia and East Asia. The focus will be on historical development of these religions, and their relevance and impact in modern societies of respective regions. The research in the history of Asian and African countries (from the ancient times to the present period) including the evolution of respective social and political structures. In the area of culture the research will be carried in the literatures and arts of Asian and African countries (China, India, Arabian countries, Sub–Saharan Africa); in theorethical and cultural foundations of traditional Chinese medicine. In the linguistics the research will concentrate on the Hindi lexicography, quantitative linguistics and the phonology and phonetics of modern Chinese.
