Investigation of multiphase reacting systems for the design of processes important in synthesis and preparation of novel materials, in energy production and in environmental protection

The aim of the proposed chemical–engineering research is to integrate the molecular–level characteristics of the investigated systems with a phenomenological knowledge of system behaviour as a function of process conditions. Main areas of research involve thermo– and hydrodynamics of multiphase systems at super–ambient conditions; phase equilibrium in systems with chemical reactions; fundamentals of extraction, sorption, and membrane separations and of supercritical fluid technology; mass and heat transfer processes in chemical, electrochemical, and combustion reactors and bioreactors; mechanisms of catalytic reactions, microwave radiation and laser–induced reactions for synthesis and preparation of novel materials, and reactions of toxic organics destruction. Results obtained shall make possible description of the behaviour of multiphase reacting systems by mathematical models, applicable to optimum process design conforming to the requirements of environmental concern.
