Research into the History of Czech Visual Arts in terms of Joining the European Community

Research goals for the period 2005–2010 are based on two assumptions. The first involves the principal project of the past years at the IAH, the History of Czech Art (1984 ff.). The second has to do with the new international dimensions in the Czech Republic following November 1989 and particularly the imminent membership of the country in the European Union, which points to the indispensability of internationalising public awareness of both the history of Czech art and the results of the research that has been done in the field. The need to prepare a concise (not in ten volumes), differently conceived history of art in the Czech lands has become apparent, so that foreign readers might have linguistic access and a reliable, expert perspective on particular issues. Before such a project can be fulfilled, however, one condition must be met: the knowledge that has been accumulated in the field must be put in more precise terms and supplemented by means of inventories of monuments.
