Post-doctoral position in the Department of Galaxies and Planetary Systems

The director of the Astronomical Institute announces a competition for a post-doctoral position in the Department of Galaxies and Planetary Systems, in the working group of relativistic astrophysics (http://astro.cas.cz). The successful candidate will work with Michal Dovčiak, Michal Bursa and Vladimír Karas within the EU FP7 collaborative project "Probing Strong Gravity by Black Holes Across the Range of Masses" (http://stronggravity.eu). The research will mainly include modelling of relativistic signatures in the X-ray spectra of accreting black holes. Skills in programming languages or experiences in reduction, analysis and interpretation of X-ray data are necessary.
Candidates must hold PhD degree in the field and present a certificate by the date of employment. A necessary condition is to satisfy legal requirements for the employment in the Czech Republic (EU member state). The position will start on the 1st of January 2014 (later start can be negotiated). The appointment is for two years with one year extension possible in case of availability of funds. Salary will be based on the usual domestic level.
