Geometric and kinetic aspects of nonequilibrium steady states

Abstract: Markov stochastic systems can be described in terms of the stationary occupations, currents and dynamical activity landscape. I will discuss (i) how these complementary characteristics depend on local thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the system, and (ii) how geometry of the transition network determines dominant low-temperature patterns. Possible applications include, e.g., the asymptotic analysis of current in ratchet models and the construction of “zero-temperature” phase diagrams for driven interacting particles. I will also outline a work in progress on building a low-temperature asymptotic framework for quasistatic nonequilibrium processes.
