Juniorský badatelský projekt GA AV ČR, doba řešení 2006-2008
Shrnutí projektu
Sociální distance budou studovány pomocí dvou výzkumů, vstupní kvalitativní sondy a reprezentativního šetření v dospělé populaci. Zkoumán bude stratifikační prostor bez existujících apriorních klasifikací (typu status či třída). Cílem je zmapování celého stratifikačního prostoru včetně skupin lidí nezařazených ve standardním pracovním procesu. K tomu bude využito především metody měření subjektivní sociální distance a percepce sociálních nerovností a přístupu měřící objektivní sociální distance v rámci sociální sítě jedince (generátory jmen a pozic).
- Kvalitativní výzkum sociálních distancí - polostrukturované rozhovory v Praze a Liberci (sběr dat 2006).
- Kvantitativní šetření Sociální distance (sběr dat listopad - prosinec 2007, agentura Focus).
- Sekundární analýzu dat z výzkumu MML TGI ČR (Median s.r.o.)

This text focuses on how Czech people re-construct the divisions and inequalities, how they define social categories and classes in the Czech society, and how people distinguish and distance themselves from or identify with these categories/classes. The qualitative analysis is based on 30 in-depth interviews with men and women with various educational backgrounds and social statuses and on qualitative analysis of the concept of social class in Czech media discourse.

I introduce the Czech version of method measuring egocentric social network – Position generator and relevant social capital measures. Respondents report contacts to 18 jobs with different social status. To assess validity regression models on the measures employing sociodemographics, ethnic and educational network diversity are estimated likewise correlation with effects of social network: income, job mobility, trust, life satisfaction and tolerance to ethic groups.

Theoretical implications of consumption as differentiating mechanism contributing to the collective identity of social class are discussed. I analyze differences in conspicuous consumption and its antipole taste of necessity (preferences for branded / unbranded goods) among social classes ABCDE on the data MML TGI 2004. There are differences between classes in both domains but along with influence of gender and age.
