Aelita Belyaeva (Russia, MA 2004)
Aelita Belyaeva works as a Senior Credit Risk Analyst at Československá obchodní banka, a.s. (ČSOB) in Prague. She entered the CERGE-EI program in 2002. Her areas of specialization were industrial organization and econometrics. Before coming to Prague, she had already earned a PhD in Mathematics and Statistics from Saint-Petersburg State University in Russia.
Jaroslav Borovička (Czech Republic, MA 2006)
Jaroslav Borovička is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, New York University. He finished his MA at CERGE-EI in 2006 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of Chicago in 2012. Before joining NYU, he worked as an economist in the research department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.His research interests cover macroeconomic and asset pricing theory, with natural overlaps into computational economics, time series econometrics and decision theory. His research articles were published in Journal of Econometrics and Journal of Financial Econometrics.Before entering the program at CERGE-EI, Jaroslav studied international trade at the University of Economics in Prague, and mathematical modeling and computer science at the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.
Katarína Borovičková (Slovak Republic, MA 2007)
Katarína Borovičková is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, New York University, and will become an Assistant Professor at the New York University in September 2014. She finished her MA at CERGE-EI in 2007 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2012. Her research interests cover labor market economics and macroeconomics. Whenever possible, she likes to use micro-data to answer macroeconomic questions. Before entering the program at CERGE-EI, Katarína studied at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at the Comenius University in Bratislava, where she specialized in economics and financial modeling (EFM).
Ariadna Dumitrescu (Romania, MA equiv. 1998)
Ariadna Dumitrescu is an Associate Professor at ESADE Ramon Llull University Business School, Barcelona. Before joining CERGE-EI in 1996, she received B.A. in Mathematics from University of Bucharest, Romania. She later earned her PhD at IDEA, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in 2003. Her research interests are asset pricing and strategic behavior in financial markets, with applications to market microstructure and valuation of corporate debt.
Olga (Borissova) Cook (Kazakhstan, MA 2006)
Olga Cook currently works as a Business Development Specialist & Business Analyst at SAP in Prague, an international business software corporation. She previously worked as a Senior eBusiness Analyst at Monster Worldwide, a global recruiting group. She was initially admitted at CERGE-EI in 2003, specializing in advanced Macroeconomics theory and financial markets. Her previous academic work was done at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research.
Václav Franče (Czech Republic, MA 2012)
Václav Franče currently works as Macroeconomic Analyist Raiffeisenbank, a.s. in Prague, Czech Republic. He was admitted at CERGE-EI in 2010. Before joining the CERGE-EI program, he earned a Czech Masters degree (Ing.) with distinction from the Institute of Economic Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. He is an active blogger on economic and political issues at idnes, the online site for MF Dnes, one of the Czech Republic's top two most-circulated daily newspapers.
Anush Hakobyan (Armenia, MA 2004)
Anush Hakobyan is Senior Lecturer at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration in Moscow, Russia. Before entering the CERGE-EI program, she earned an MA in Mathematical Economics from Yerevan State University in Armenia. After finishing her MA at CERGE-EI, she worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London on a number of projects based in Russia and the Caucasus. Since 2009 she has accepted the teaching position which she currently holds. She is also a CERGE-EI graduate teaching fellow in the 2011-12 academic year.
Alexei Kapkin (Russia, MA equiv. 1995)
Alexei Kapkin is Global Equity Analyst and Partner at River and Mercantile Asset Management in London, a position he has held since 2009. Before entering CERGE-EI in 1992, Alexei graduated from Moscow Mining Institute with an Msc in Electronics. He pursued his PhD research in the field of Corporate Finance until at CERGE-EI in Prague until 1997, when he accepted a position at Dresdner Kleinwort Wassertein as a research analyst based in London and Moscow covering Banks, other Financials Mining and Engineering Stocks.
Yuriy Kapys (Ukraine, MA 2001)
Yuriy Kapys works as Road Network Optimization Manager at DHL Express's headquarters in Köln, Germany. Before taking that position, he worked as Network Development Manager, DHL Supply Chain. He moved into the logistics field after finishing his MA at CERGE-EI in 2001, where he focused on Industrial Organization and Financial Markets. After working in logistics for a few years, he completed a postgraduate engineering degree from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in Netherlands.
Andrei Kovrijnykh (Russia, MA 2001)
Andrei Kovrijnykh is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University Chicago Graduate School of Business. He joined CERGE-EI in 1998, after receiving Bachelor's degree from his native Novosibirsk State University. After completing his MA from CERGE-EI, he continued pursuing his PhD degree at University of Chicago, which he successfully completed in 2008, with a dissertation titled "Career Uncertainty and Human Capital". Andrei studies the fields of managerial accounting, microeconomic theory, and labor economics with specific focus on specialization, reputational incentives, and managerial compensation.
Natalia Kovrijnykh (Russia, MA 2001)
Natalia Kovrijnykh completed her MA at CERGE-EI and was awarded a full scholarship at the University of Chicago's Department of Economics. She entered the PhD program there in 2002, graduating in 2008. Since then she has worked as Assistant Professor of Economics at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Her research interests are dynamic contract theory, applied game theory, macroeconomics and financial economics.
Sofiya Kuzyak (Ukraine, MA 2007)
Sofiya Kuzyak works as a Basel II Specialist at Komerční banka, a.s. in Prague. She entered the CERGE-EI program in 2004, having earned a Bachelor's (Economics and Entrepreneurship) and Master's degree (International Economics) from Ternopil Academy of National Economy in Ukraine. Before working at Komerční banka, she worked as a Research Consultant, Drill B.S. (Business Services).
Emiliya Lazarova (Bulgaria, MA 2002)
Emiliya Lazarova is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Birmingham, UK. Emiliya was admitted to CERGE-EI in 2000 having earned a B.A. degree in Economics from the American University in Bulgaria. After receiving MA from CERGE-EI in 2002, she continued pursuing her PhD at Tilburg University, the Netherlands, which she completed in 2006. She has previously been a Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast Management School.
Andrea (Mračnová) Májeková (Slovakia, MA 2011)
Andrea Májeková is a Consultant at IPR Corporation, Ltd. London, UK. She was admitted to the CERGE-EI program in 2008, having completed a Masters degree in Applied Mathematics at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. She also worked in the Slovak banking industry at Privatbanka, a.s. in Bratislava.
Anton Marcinčin (Slovakia, MA equiv. 1993)
Anton Marcinčin is Adviser to the Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava. Before taking that position, he served as a Member of Parliament in the National Council of the Slovak Republic, having been elected in 2010 as a member of the Christian Democratic Movement party. He served on the Committee on Finance and Budget. Before entering politics, he worked a MESA10 and the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, and then served as World Bank country economist for Slovakia and Slovenia. He was admitted to CERGE-EI's first cohort in 1991 and undertook extended research stays in Amsterdam at the Tinbergen Institute and the CEP at the London School of Economics. He defended his PhD dissertation at the Charles University Faculty of Social Sciences in 1998.
Jakub Matějů (Czech Republic, MA 2012)
Jakub Matějů is currently a Junior Economic Analyst at the Czech National Bank. Jakub already has published a working paper co-authored with Roman Horváth in the CERGE-EI working paper series, titled "How Are Inflation Targets Set?" which was featured on the popular Vox.EU policy website. He is also an author of "Do Financial Variables Help Predict Macroeconomic Environment? The Case of the Czech Republic," a Czech National Bank working paper co-authored with Tomáš Havránek & Roman Horváth.
Marko Petrović (Serbia, MA 2013)
Marko Petrović is a Scientific Researcher and PhD student at the University Jaume I (UJI) in Castellon De La Plana, Spain. He currently works on the Financial Distortions and Macroeconomic Performance - FINMAP project. He earned his MA from CERGE-EI in 2013 and immediately joined the UJI. Before entering the CERGE-EI program he graduated from the Higher School of Professional Business Studies as well as from the University of Economics in Novi Sad, Serbia. His research interests are focused on agent-based computational economics and expectations, constraints and interaction of agents in financial markets.
Martin Pospíšil (Czech Republic, MA 2011)
Martin Pospíšil is an Economist and Policy Analyst at the OECD in Paris, focusing on the private sector development in the Eurasia region. He has worked for the Czech National Bank, in management consulting for Roland Berger and A.T. Kearney, and for the Czech National Economic Council. Martin studied economic theory at the Charles University in Prague (with distinction) with a year stay at the University of Bath. He has also studied CEMS International management at the London School of Economics and at the University of Economics, Prague.
Viorel Roscovan (Moldova, MA 2004)
Viorel Roscovan enrolled in the PhD program at Tilburg University after finishing his MA at CERGE-EI in 2004. He completed his PhD at Tilburg's CentER program in 2008, and became Assistant Professor of Finance at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands that same year. His primary research interests are Asset Pricing, Fixed Income Markets and Banking.
Klarita Sadiraj (Albania, MA equiv. 1995)
Klarita Sadiraj is a Scientific Researcher at The Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP). After leaving CERGE-EI, she continued her academic work at the Tinbergen Institute at the University of Amsterdam, receiving her PhD in 1999. Her policy work after finishing her PhD was focused on health economics and social security policies, working as an Economic Researcher at SEO Economic Research in the Netherlands.
Anastasia Semykina (Russia, MA 2001)
Anastasia Semykina is Assistant Professor of Economics at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. After finishing her MA at CERGE-EI, she earned a PhD from Michigan State University. Her research interests are theoretical and applied econometrics, labor economics, economics and psychology and the economics of education. Recent academic publications include "Estimating panel data models in the presence of endogeneity and selection" in Journal of Econometrics (with Jeffrey M. Wooldridge) and "Perceptions of economic insecurity: Evidence from Russia" in Economic Systems (with Susan J. Linz).
Umed Temurshoev (Tajikistan, MA 2005)
Umed Temurshoev is a Lecturer and post-doctoral researcher at University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Currently he is involved with the World Input-Output Database (WIOD) project, dealing with methodological issues related to the WIOD database. Previous to joining the CERGE-EI program in 2003, he had BA in Economics from American University of Cental Asia (AUCA) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. After receiving his MA from CERGE-EI in 2005, he continued his studies as PhD candidate at the University of Groningen. His research interests cover topics in Macroeconomics and Econometrics. He is an author of numerous academic papers, two recent examples being "Joint estimation of supply and use tables" in Papers in Regional Science (with Marcel P. Timmer) and "Projection of supply and use tables: methods and their empirical assessment" in Economic Systems Research (with Colin Webb and Norihiko Yamano).
Mariya Teteryatnikova (Kazakhstan, MA 2005)
Mariya Teteryatnikova has worked as an Assistant Professor at Department of Economics, University of Vienna, Austria since October 2009. Prior to joining CERGE-EI in 2003, she studied Mathematics at Saint Petersburg State University, Russia, earning an MSc Degree (with honors). After receiving her MA Degree from CERGE-EI in 2005, she continued her academic career at the European University Institute in Italy, where she successfully defended her PhD dissertation ("Essays on Applied Network Theory") in 2009. Her current research interests are network theory, applied game theory, international trade and financial crises.
Viktor L. Tchistiakov (Russia, MA equiv. 1993)
Viktor Tchistiakov is Senior Associate at Quantitative Risk Analystics, Rabobank International in Utrecht. He also teaches graduate students at the University of Twente. In 1997 he obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Twente and began working as a Senior Analyst at Transtrend in Rotterdam. From 2000-2007 he worked as Senior Analyst for Portfolio Modelling at ING Group in Amsterdam, before moving to Rabobank International. In 2007 he earned the Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) GARP certification.
Peter Tuchyňa (Slovakia, MA 2008)
Peter Tuchyňa works as a Credit Scoring Analyst at Česká Spořitelna, a.s. in Prague. He completed his Bachelor's degree at Charles University in Prague before entering CERGE-EI in 2005. At CERGE-EI he specialized in Advanced Macroeconomics and Financial Markets. He is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Level 3 Candidate.
Mária Valachyová (Slovakia, MA 2002)
Mária Valachyová works as Head of Market Research at Slovenská sporiteľňa in Bratislava. She entered the CERGE-EI program in 2000 and focused on the areas of Monetary Economics and the Economics of Transition. Prior to her position at Slovenská sporiteľňa, she worked at Všeobecná úverová banka as an Analyst.
Constantin Zaman (Romania, MA equiv., 1993)
Constantin Zaman works as as ASISP (Analytical Support on the Socio-Economic Impact of Social Protection Reforms) Expert for the Department of Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities at European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment. His work is concentrated on pensions, health care and long-term care issues in Romania. He joined CERGE-EI in its inaugural year (1991) and finished his PhD at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. He has worked as a researcher to numerous European and international organizations such as the European Training Foundation (ETF), the UNDP, the EBRD and UNESCO.
Vera Zaporozhets (Russia, MA 2001)
Vera Zaporozhets currently is a Research Fellow at the Toulouse School of Economics, France. She joined CERGE-EI 1999, previously having earned an MA in Mathematics from Moscow State University, Russia. After receiving her MA in Economics from CERGE-EI in 2001, Vera moved to Toulouse School of Economics to continue her graduate studies, and obtained PhD in 2006. Between 2007-2009 she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Business and Economics of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
