Ph.D. position

Opening of Applications: 9/4/2014

Deadline for Applications: 15/9/2014

Further Details and Application Form

Description/Comments:
A four-year Ph.D. student position is available, with the goal to support the elaboration of the applicant's Ph.D. Thesis in the framework of the European Research Council Advanced Grant Feasibility, logic and randomness in computational complexity (FEALORA) under the direction of Professor Pavel Pudlák.

The successful candidates will enroll in the Ph.D. programme of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague. Note that many courses at Charles University are given in English, so the knowledge of the Czech language is not required. The Institute of Mathematics will provide them with office space and salary. The thesis will be supervised by the principal investigator of the project (or by one of his co-investigators). The students are expected to research problems related to the project. They should also take part in other activities of the research group in the Institute of Mathematics such as the seminars and workshops. If no suitable candidates for the entire Ph.D. programme are found, this position may be used for those who already started their study elsewhere and want to spend only part of their studies in Prague.

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed, or will complete their Master degree in Mathematics or Theoretical Computer Science before 30 December 2014, and who have good knowledge of mathematical logic and/or computational complexity. At least basic knowledge of English is required.

Informal enquiries should be directed to the Project Manager, Dr. Beata Kubiś (kubisb@math.cas.cz).

Applications for the position must be submitted using the electronic submission system at https://application.math.cas.cz/Positions.html.

Only complete applications (including the letter of reference) received before 15 September 2014 will be considered.
