CERGE-EI Career Integration Fellowships (CIFs) are available for Western-educated economists returning to Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union to take full-time academic posts.

Applications for Fellowships beginning in Autumn 2014 are currently being accepted. Full details of the program can be found in the downloadable CERGE-EI Career Integration Fellowship Application Packet.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 24, 2014. Applicants who are considering a new academic appointment which is conditional upon receiving the fellowship can submit their application early and get a decision within two weeks.

The CERGE-EI Foundation provides fellowships for economists who obtained their PhD in North America, Australia/New Zealand or Western Europe and who are assuming a full-time academic position in any country in Central and Eastern Europe or the countries of the former Soviet Union. The purpose of the fellowship is to make academic careers in the post-communist countries more attractive for such graduates by providing supplemental income that should bridge the gap between academic and private sector salaries. The fellowship also provides a set of services designed to improve the academic environment for the fellow including remote access to CERGE-EI Library resources and the opportunity to organize research stays at CERGE-EI.

The fellowship carries an award of $7200 per year and is guaranteed to be provided for 3 years. If the program receives sufficient funding in the future, fellowships may be renewed. The fellowship is over and above the salary paid by the university where the fellow will teach.
