Prof. Noam Chomsky at the Academy of Sciences
One of the most important scientists of today, Professor Avram Noam Chomsky from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology appeared on Monday, 2 June 2014 at the headquarters of the Academy of Sciences of the CR with a lecture entitled “What Can We Understand?” On this occasion, he received the honorary medal “De scientia et humanitate optime meritis” from the President of the ASCR, Prof. Jiří Drahoš.

Patrick Gaulé Awarded the Otto Wichterle Award 2014
Patrick Gaulé , an Assistant Professor at CERGE-EI (under U.S. permanent charter) and at CERGE, Charles University, and a Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, has been awarded the Otto Wichterle Award, an honour given by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic to stimulate and encourage selected, exceptionally outstanding, promising young scientists at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for their remarkable contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge in a given area .

IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2014
IMD, a business school based in Switzerland, has announced its annual world competitiveness rankings for 2014. As part of its ranking of 60 economies, the IMD World Competitiveness Center also looks at perceptions of each country as a place to do business. Czech Republic has come in at 33th in 2014 and thus become the most competitive country of the Visegrad Group. The partner institution for IMD in the Czech Republic is think tank IDEA.

CERGE-EI Community Helps Flood Victims
Three months of heavy rainfall in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina has produced in just three days the worst floodsthe countries have seen in 120 years. On Thursday, May 15, a state of emergency was declared in both countries, leaving roughly 400 schools closed. CERGE-EI students have decided to help the victims.
