The coming school is a continuation of the highly successful series of
summer schools on physics of nanostructures, surfaces and thin films
held every three years in the Czech Republic. The school programme aims
at presenting current directions of research at both tutorial as well
as state-of-the-art level.
It is widely recognized that the first-principles based calculations of strongly correlated materials are important for understanding physical and chemical properties. The quantitative materials theory makes remarkable impact on the modern technology. This workshop aims to disseminate the present knowledge in this rich and vivid field. We invite both theoreticians and experimentalists to discuss development and applications of the correlated band methods based on a combination of the density functional theory and the dynamical mean field theory.
ELI Beamlines announce that the ELI Beamlines Summer School (ELISS 2014) will be held in Prague, The Czech Republic from Sunday August 24th, 2014 to Friday August 29th, 2014. The summer school targets students around the world to participate in seminars lead by distinguished academics and researchers.
The idea of regular scientific meetings of physicist involved in studies of ferroelectrics and phase transitions in Poland and Czechoslovakia followed inevitably from the success of first such event in Blazejewko in 1979. The Seminar was organized in collaborating of the Department of Dielectric of the Institute of Physics of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and Ferroelectric Lab of the Institute of Molecular Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences. The Seminars are an international forum for presentation of recent results, unconstrained discussions and initiating of joint studies.
Ad hoc workshops are small two days workshops organized by authors of the crystallographic software Jana2006. The topics and dates are selected by participants in Jana web pages. A workshop is organized as soon as an overlap in subscribed topics is found.

A workshop is organized as soon as an overlap in subscribed topics is found. The topics of the 17th workshop are as follows: (INT1) Simple 3d structures; (INT2) Simple 4d modulated structures; (DIS) Disordered structures; (RIG) Application of rigid body; (TW) Twinning. Program details will be given in the workshop page.
The goal of the workshop is that each participant will calculate
crystal field parameters of the rare earth in a compound of his choice.
The method can be applied to arbitrary local symmetry of rare-earth site.

This workshop explains usage of the general purpose crystallographic program Jana2006 for refinement of magnetic structures from neutron powder or single crystal data. Jana2006 includes tools for determination of magnetic symmetry from the symmetry of diffraction pattern as well as tools for representation analysis. It can find direct relationship between magnetic space or superspace group and corresponding representation and use it in the refinement.
This workshop explains and demonstrates the method of electron diffraction tomography. Using practical examples, it explains the whole process starting from electron diffraction data collection and processing, followed by solution of the phase problem and finished by refinement of crystal structures using either kinematical or dynamical theory.
The 9th Interregional Workshop on Advanced Nanomaterials (IWAN) will be held in Prague on 7th – 8th November 2013. This interregional workshop represents a good meeting platform for materials scientists from three neighboring countries - Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic - working in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
