 (born in 1946 Prague)

prof. Ing. Jiří Čtyroký, DrSc. Graduated from the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague in 1968. PhD in applied physics was obtained from the same university. Since 1974 he has been with the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague (now the Institute of Photonics and Electronics ASCR, v. v. i.), since 1978 as Head of the Dept. of Guided Wave Optics, now as Deputy Director. In 1985–86 and 1990–91 he was with the University of Dortmund where he worked in the field of integrated optics, supported by the Humboldt Foundation. In 1990 he received the DrSc. degree in electrical engineering from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Since 1993 he has lectured several subjects in bachelor, master and PhD programme at the Czech Technical University, since 2005 as professor of applied physics.

Jiří Čtyroký has been involved inresearch in the field of integrated optics and guided-wave photonics optics since seventies. He has contributed mainly to theory and modelling of the propagation of optical radiation and electro-optic, acousto-optic and nonlinear interactions in guided-wave photonic structures and devices. He authored and co-authored over 100 original papers and conference contributions and 12 patents and contributed to five books. His work has been cited more than 500 times. Since 1993 he is member of the permament Steering Committee of the European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO). Since 2004 he has been Topical Editor, Guided Waves in the Journal of Optical Society of America A. He is Senior Member of IEEE and Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK).
