Jiri is a post-doc at the Prague Relativistic Astrophysics Group of the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences. His research includes active galactic nuclei and X-ray binaries. He received his PhD from Charles University in Prague in 2010, then he worked as Research Fellow at the European Spain Astronomy Center (ESAC) of the European Space Agency in Madrid (Spain), 2011–2013.

X-ray observations of active galactic nuclei and black-hole binaries offer a unique laboratory for testing the general relativity in the strong gravity regime, for studying accretion physics around black holes, and for constraining properties of the accreting black holes. In the Thesis "Looking into the inner black hole accretion disc with relativistic models of iron line", I discussed black hole spin measurements employing the relativistic iron line profiles in the X-ray domain. I used the data from the XMM-Newton satellite, as well as I performed simulations of the data for the oncoming X-ray satellites.
