Research interests

• Plant genome structure, evolution and function, interspecific hybridization, genetic instability of plant cells cultured in vitro, the use of flow cytometry in plant sciences.
• Development of chromosome genomics approach to enable analysis of complex and polyploid plant genomes, analysis of genome structure, evolution and function of polyploid and hybrid plant species.

Management exeperiences

J. Dolezel served as PI on 19 research projects, including 2 projects from the International Atomic Agency and 1 EU project (INTAS), and as Co-PI on 17 research projects, which included 2 EU projects (COST and 7-th Framework Programme) and 2 US projects (USDA and NSF).

Important applications of results

Contributed significantly to the developmnet of methods for analysis of nuclear DNA content, which have been used worldwide in taxonomy, population biology, evolutionary biology and plant breeding. Developed a new approach for plant genomics called 'Chromosomal Genomics', which has been used in the analysis of hereditary information and isolation of genes inplants with large and complex genomes like cereals.
