In compliance with the act on the support of research and development and with the government decree based on this act on support of research and development, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (hereinafter only “AS CR”) annually invites public tenders in the field of research and development on the grant projects. The Grant Agency of the AS CR (hereinafter only “GA AS”) is responsible for administrative management of the public tenders. The GA AS is – in compliance with the Articles of AS CR – an internal body of the AS CR and is an open grant agency. Any legal persons with permanent residence in the Czech Republic, physical entities with permanent or long-term residence in the Czech Republic, government or municipal authority organizations are entitled to apply for awarding of a purpose-built support. The grantor of the purpose-built subsidy is the AS CR, with registered office at Národní 3, 117 20, Prague 1, the GA AS resides at the same address.

The position and mission of the Grant Agency of AS CR is stipulated in the “GA AS Statute” approved by the Academic Senate, as the supreme body of the Academy. Its activities comply with the “Rules of Procedure and Electoral Regulations”.

In compliance with the GA AS Statute, the GA AS annually invites new public tenders in the field of research and development. Before invitation of the public tenders the GA AS decides what types of grant projects would be accepted in the given year and determines the terms of the tenders. These terms together with the details about the form and procedure of compilation of the grant project proposal are a part of the “project documentation” published in time of the public tender’s invitation.

The common feature of all the research grant project types supported by GA AS is that their subjects have a character of basic research.
